Naresh Tikait, president, Bharatiya Kisan Union, said here today that the agrarian community had been reeling under a massive debt burden and it was time the government implemented the Swaminathan Commission report.
Addressing a ‘kisan maha rally’ here, Tikait said there had been an outrage among farmers against the Pradan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and they would launch a non-cooperation agitation at the district headquarters here on August 22.“It is an irony that country’s farming community has been dying of hunger and poverty, while the ruling BJP government is busy building

Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party Leader Kiran Choudhry, who participated in a farmers’ meet, said she had applied for an adjournment motion in the state Assembly to highlight the gaps in the yojana.She said if farmers’ legitimate concerns were not addressed, her party would stall the proceedings of the Assembly.
