This was stated by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh during his visit in connection with the BJP’s ‘Tiranga yatra’ here on Sunday. The Minister told the media that the crops were being insured by the Center at a subsidised premium and farmers would get compensation without any hassles. He said the official concerned would give the information regarding affected crops to the Centre Agriculture Ministry and the farmers would get 25% of the compensation in two or three days. He participated in the ‘Tiranga yatra’ on a motorcycle. State BJP president Subhash Barala was also present.
BKU threatens stir
Naresh Tikait, president, Bharatiya Kisan Union, said here today that the agrarian community had been reeling under a massive debt burden and it was time the government implemented the Swaminathan Commission report. Addressing a ‘kisan maha rally’ here, Tikait said there had been an outrage among farmers against the Pradan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and they would launch a non-cooperation agitation at the district headquarters here on August 22. “It is an irony that country’s farming community has been dying of hunger and poverty, while the ruling BJP government is busy building image at the international platform,” he said.
