Government Physical Training Instructors (PTI) and Demonstrators and Physical Educators (DPE) boycotted the inaugural day of the district-level tournament today. They are demanding sports and coaching facilities for students to prepare them for international events.“Unless a player gets quality coaching from his coach and motivation like cash prize in his school life, it becomes difficult for him to face tough competition at global level,” said Virender Singh Ghanghas, district president, Haryana Sharirik Shikshak Adyapak Sangh (HSSAS).Ghanghas said it was a symbolic boycott by PTIs and DPEs to highlight their long-pending demands before the state government. He said the recruitment of PTIs were declared as dead cadre which means no further recruitment of new PTIs would be done at school level by the government.“Presently, PTIs coach students till Class VIII and DPEs take care of students from Class IX to XII in government schools but if no recruitment was done in former cadre, the entire burden would be shared by the latter,” he said.He said the state government claimed to have best sports policy in the country, but at least 800 posts of PTIs and DPEs were lying vacant in government schools and its absence were hampering in grooming athletes right from schooling.HSSAS state president Rajesh Dhanda said it was a laudatory step of the government to announce crores of rupees for Olympics medallists but the students who win at various sports tournament at a district level and zone level should be honoured with some cash prize.Dhanda said cash prize motivates and inspire players to remain engaged and take up sports seriously. The HSSAS carried out a protest march from the Bhim stadium till the mini-Secretariat and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The association threatened to boycott scheduled state-level tournament in Bhiwani on September 5 if their demands were not addressed.
