Chandigarh August 24—The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, announced today that wrestler Sakshi Malik who brought laurels to the state and the country by winning bronze medal in Rio Olympics-2016, would be the new Brand Ambassador of Haryana for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. Besides, the Chief Minister has offered her Class-II government job.
Addressing a well attended gathering at a felicitation function organized at Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district, the Chief Minister also announced that a sports nursery and stadium would be set up in Mokhra, the native village of Sakshi, in Rohtak district.
On this occasion, he honoured Sakshi Malik by presenting her a with a cheque for Rs 2.5 crore. Apart from this, he also honoured Sakshi’s coach Mandeep Singh with cash award of Rs 10 lakh. On her request, the Chief Minister also announced to give cash award of Rs 10 lakh to her second coach Kuldeep.
Mr Manohar Lal said Haryana was the first state not only in the country but also in the world to have announced cash award of Rs 6 crore for the winner of gold medal in Olympics. No state or country has announced such a huge amount for their sportspersons. Sakshi’s achievement could not be translated into words. The state government is making all efforts to ensure that its sportspersons succeeded in establishing their unique identity in the world.
Several concrete steps have been taken to provide latest facilities to the sportspersons in Haryana. One thousand coached would soon be recruited. Besides, sports and yoga trainers were also being recruited. A sports university is being set up to give boost to sports in the state.
Haryana is fast developing as a sports hub. In the Indian contingent of 119 players for Rio Olympics-2016, 20 sportspersons were from Haryana; every sixth player was from the state.
The Chief Minister said that the new Sports Policy had begun to bear fruits. Under the policy, the state government has announced cash awards of Rs 6 crore, Rs 4 crore and Rs 2.5 crore respectively, for the players winning gold, silver and bronze medal in Olympics. Both shuttler P V Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi have given priceless gifts to the country by bringing laurels on Rakshabandhan Day, he added.
Later, Sakshi Malik expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for showering on her all the encouragement. She urged the people of the state and the country to continue extending their support and cooperation so that she could bring more medals and laurels.
The Haryana Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, Agriculture Minister, Mr O.P Dhankar, Minister of State for Cooperation (Independent Charge), Mr Manish Grover, MLA Bahadurgarh, Mr Naresh Kaushik, and Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr Amit Arya, were also present at the function.
