The beneficiaries who have constructed toilets from the government fund but not using them would be dealt strictly and FIR would be registered against them. This was stated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dhirendra Khadkata during a meeting here yesterday.“By now, 110 villages in the district have applied for the open defecation-free (ODF) zone certificates and a team would soon visit the villages to cross-check the facts,” said the ADC.“The government provides a sum of Rs 12,000 under the Swachh Bharat Mission to anyone who wants to build a toilet at his house but lacks funds,” he said.Exhorting the officials to spread information about its importance, he said using toilets in villages was the need of the hour as it protects them from spreading several diseases caused by the open defecation.“The villages that would qualify for the open defecation-free certificate would be given an amount of Rs 1 lakh as prize money to motivate others,” he said.Issuing a warning to those who divert toilet funds for other purposes, he said that those who have availed fund benefits would be ineligible for applying again. He directed officials of the Panchayat Department to keep a watch on such beneficiaries by setting up a vigilance committee at the village-level.
