Pinki Ghanghas of Bhiwani, who won bronze in the 6th Asian Yoga Championship held in Vietnam recently, was given a rousing welcome at her hometown today. She, however, rues that despite her achievement, the government has not extended any help to her.“The Centre has been putting in extra efforts to promote other sports and sportspersons, but nothing is being done to promote yoga, which got the country a big name in the international community,” she said.
Demanding jobs for yoga players, she said the Narendra Modi government did an excellent job by popularising yoga in the world, but its players who were bringing laurels to the country were being given a step-motherly treatment.Pinki, who had bagged gold medal in the last year’s Asian Yoga Championship, said the state government should emulate the sports model of Tamil Nadu, where yoga players were given monetary assistance.On the December Yoga Championship to be held in Delhi, she said she was struggling to get sponsors.Baldev Ghanghas, her uncle, said they had approached the Chief Minister and Sports Minister for monetary help to Pinki, but to no avail.
