Farmers, under the banner of Sanyukth Kisan Morcha, burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at the Mini-Secretariat here today for not implementing the MS Swaminathan Commission report.
Dalip Singh Sangwan, convener of the morcha, said the report was their legitimate right. He said the previous government had set up the National Farmer Commission which was now named as Swaminathan Commission Report on November 18, 2004, to address the farmers’ issues. He said the issues pertaining to farmers’ distress, input and output costs were duly covered under it.He said the ruling regime had promised to implement the report, but now had given an affidavit in the court showing their incapability to do so.He said a ‘kisan mahakumb’ would be organised on October 9 to highlight the failure of the government.The protesters have been staging a dharna for supporting the report for the past one month.
