Bhiwani, September 23
Former Member Parliament from Bhiwani Mahendragarh, Shruti Choudhry, today said the government should immediately start the procurement of bajra in mandis to save farmers from selling their produce below the minimum support price.
She was addressing a press conference here at Anaj Mandi. She said in absence of procurement by government agencies, farmers were being forced to sell their crop at low rates. The leader said it was unfortunate to see farmers sitting on a dharna outside the mini-secretariat for the last one month while the government ignored their demand. “While in the Opposition, the BJP had promised to implement the MS Swaminathan Commission report after forming a government. It has been more than two years, but they haven’t fulfil their promise,” she added. She welcomed the formation of Charkhi Dadri as the state’s new district and said it was a long pending demand of the people and would solve their local issues at the administration level. She added that the government should not force any of the villages to be part of the new district and it should be done according to the wishes of residents.
