Waterlogging: Farmers begin dharna, seek special girdawari in Dadri

CHARKHI DADRI, OCTOBER 24Farmers today started an indefinite dharna outside the SDM’s office, demanding a special girdawari of the fields hit by waterlogging for months now.Over 10 villages under Charkhi Dadri have been facing the problem of waterlogging for months together, thus suffering a massive damage to their crops.Farmers today carried out a protest march against the state government for its failure to drain out water.Kisan Sabha president Master Sher Singh said that they had brought the problem to the knowledge of the government several times but to no avail. The farmers’ leader said the insurance companies should compensate the loss of crops suffered by the waterlogged fields. He added that the government should implement the Swaminathan Commission report to bail out farmers.Sources said the administration has deployed pumpsets to drain out water but farmers were not satisifed with the speed of work.
