Balwan Singh, a farmer from Dharan village in the district, died at a private hospital yesterday. Balwan had attempted suicide on September 29 after discovering that his bank deposits were allegedly withdrawn by bank officials fraudulently.
His son Jaibhagwan told the media that his father had an account at Dhani Mahu branch of Sarv Haryana Gramin Bank.
His father had deposited his farm income in that bank from where he also got a loan under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.
He said that bank officials allegedly entered the amount deposited by his father in the passbook manually, but did not add it to the original records.
When his father came to know that his KCC had a due of Rs 3.97 lakh and the bank balance figure did not match with the passbook entries, he asked for the details of his transaction, but was refused.
His father had approached the head office of the bank in Rohtak, where some officials accused him of conniving with the local bank officials in committing a fraud, he said.
Perturbed over the development, he tried to take his life by hanging in agriculture fields. He was rushed to a private hospital, but could not be saved and he breathed his last on Tuesday.
On the complaint of Jaibhagwan, the police registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against bank manager Dinesh Kathpalia, assistant manager Pankaj, cashier Sombir, bank GM, Rohtak, and employee Satpal, the police said.
